MC38 Series 2022 Australian Championships - Overall - Winners Crowned
GO GO Beck out-sails family while Lazy Dog edges out Swish

MC38 2022 Season Act 6, September 17-18 hosted by Middle Harbour Yacht Club with racing on Sydney Harbour. A third place to Christian Beck and his Infotrack GO team is as good as the MC38’s Act 6 overall victory given he beat two family members, the grinning skipper reckons.

Marcus Blackmore's Hooligan, sailing for the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, led the nine-boat fleet on day one and consolidated on day two, beating Steve Proud's Swish and the Indy Beck skippered InfoTrack on overall points.
"The racing was awesome; the level is as high as it's ever been," said Hooligan's tactician Ben Lamb.

After building nicely this season and knocking on the door of a series win, Leslie Green’s MC38 team on Ginger wrapped up a shortened Act 3 with plenty to spare.
Autumn nor’easters 5-12 knots meant Middle Harbour Yacht Club’s race officer Steve Tucker and his team could execute a full program of four races on day one, Saturday May 14.

Christian Beck’s InfoTrack, from Middle Harbour Yacht Club, pipped Marcus Blackmore’s Hooligan, from the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club, by a point across four races. Results from day one stood after day two’s grim conditions failed to yield a single point.
MC38 2022 Season Act 1: Lazy Dog catches MC38 trophy on Pittwater

Owners Shaun Lane and Quentin Stewart and the rest of the Lazy Dog team from Middle Harbour Yacht Club opened the MC38 class’ 2022 season soundly with a four-point win on Pittwater in gusty sou’east winds and dark cloud banks that dumped rain squalls, creating dramatic scenes against the dark coloured carbon fibre boats and black sails.

Sydney returned to deep winter for the MC38 class' penultimate act of their 2020 season, temperatures in the low to mid-teens with rain and southerly gusts up to 30 knots on Sydney Harbour blowing up Ginger's kite and sending hundreds of litres of saltwater cascading over the decks of the eye-catching 38 footers.

Winter sailing on Sydney Harbour is often fraught, light winds and plenty of shifting potholes to catch the unsuspecting out. For the MC38s crews who returned to their season after months of COVID isolation, getting the fleet back together and completing the seven-race program was more than enough compensation for the tricky conditions.

The MC38s are back at it and the new season began with fireworks, Lightspeed struck hard by Lazy Dog in a port/starboard incident in fresh conditions on Saturday February 1 and unable to finish the day, but ultimately returning to claim top regatta honours.
